Landscaping in Loomis

On acreage, the design decision that matters most is where the landscape stops. A defined, irrigated zone around the house, then a deliberate transition into managed grassland, orchard, or oak woodland, is both cheaper to build and far cheaper to run than trying to garden the whole parcel. Drawing that boundary honestly at the design stage is the single largest cost lever on a rural property.

Irrigation on acreage is a hydraulic problem before it is a horticultural one. Long mainline runs lose pressure, well pumps have a duty cycle and a recovery rate that cap how much can be applied per day, and a system designed as though it had unlimited municipal pressure will underperform at the far end from the day it is switched on. Zone sizing, pipe diameter, and pressure-compensating emitters are the parts of a Loomis irrigation design that repay attention.

Old orchard ground brings its own conditions: compaction from decades of equipment along the rows, residual soil chemistry, and sometimes surviving fruit trees worth keeping. Assessing what is there before designing over it is worthwhile, because a mature, healthy fruit tree is an asset a new landscape cannot buy, and a compacted equipment lane is a problem that gets much more expensive to fix once a patio has been poured on top of it.
